Pre Selection Consultation

Pre selection consultation helps you choose the right dog for both your temperament and your lifestyle, and teach you the basics of housetraining, exercise, and proper socialization, as well as how to determine the best diet for your dog. All of these factors play an important role in creating a strong foundation for a positive training experience for you and your dog. And just in case you become confused as to why they do the things they do, we can help you with that also!

Potty Training 101

Potty Training 101 consists of two counseling sessions and unlimited support. All training materials are provided by Potomac Dog School.

Puppy HEADSTART

Puppy HEADSTART includes two hours of consultation to help families with their new young puppies. If your puppy is at least 6-weeks old, but under 4-months, then Puppy HEADSTART is the right place to start training! We not only teach your pup the basics of "sit" and "down", but we also teach you how to live with your new member of the family. Our private customized sessions are fun, affordable, and convenient. Never worry about missing a class---we come to your home, at the time that is most convenient for you. Some of the topics available to be discussed are: potty training, safe toys vs. unsafe toys, inappropriate chewing, barking, play biting, jumping up, socialization, handling exercises, etc.

Socialization Classes

Socialization classes provide individualized personal training involves intensive training with you and your dog. These sessions are ideal for pets with socialization problems that prevent them from interacting with other animals or with other behavioral issues that require more focused attention. Sessions run by the hour; length is determined by desired goals.

Behavior Modification

Behavior modification consultations provide you with a fair and positive program for issues such as separation anxiety, nuisance barking, aggression, even introducing a new baby to the dog. We will work with you in the environment where the behavior occurs. A really sad fact is that behavior problems are the number one reason that people get rid of a pet dog. Private Lessons

Private Lessons provide you with the flexibility to decide what problem you would like us to solve and/or what command you would like with the guidance of the trainer. The number and the frequency are determined by the owner. Private lessons are 50 -60 minutes in length. Depending on location, there may be a travel fee. Training is done in the comfort of your home. This technique allows your pup to make the decision to want to work with you - not because he's tethered at your side.

Day and Home School

Potomac Day School provides the flexibility to meet all your needs. You may choose a day or home school program designed to fit your exact needs. Each program is two weeks long. Once your pet is enrolled you are now part of the PDS family and are eligible to participate in our Lifetime Group Classes and lifetime follow-up at no charge to you. If you should encounter any problems with the below listed commands/concepts these classes are guaranteed to get your pet back on track:

Outward Bound Class is designed to give you complete control of your dog in any environment. We will train you to train your dog to be reliable in the midst of real world distractions. Three or four initial lessons are taught privately, the students progress to the real world environment of group classes. Group lessons are taught multiple times per week. Remember…you may attend an unlimited number of group lessons until your dog achieves the following skill set, at which time you will be issued a graduation certificate.

House Manners Class is designed for "control around your home." You will be trained to train your dog to be reliable around the house, as well as around real world distractions. Lessons may be taught both at your home and at a designated training area. Three lessons are booked initially. Lifetime follow-up is available should you encounter problems with any of the outlined objectives listed below. Examples of concepts and commands that can be taught are:
